About CoNIMS

CoNIMS, an acronym for Computer Networks, Infrastructure Management and Security, is a Research group in the Department of Computer Sciences, University of Lagos. The Research group was created in 2014 in recognition of the need for a platform to bring together researchers and scholars in the fields of Computer networks, infrastructure management, security, and related disciplines. Its vision is to conduct research that will advance knowledge in the broad area of Information Technology and Communications, while its mission is to conduct research and; apply the results of research to solving real-life problems; publish findings of research in reputable local and international Journals; organize and attend conferences in the research area.

In fulfilment of one of the group’s cardinal missions, annual conferences and workshops are organised to discuss contemporary and emerging issues. At the end of each conference and workshop, communiques and proceedings are published and widely circulated. The maiden conference and workshop was held from October 23 to 25, 2018 at the Arthur Mbanefo Digital Research Centre, University of Lagos. CoNIMS also publishes a journal, the International Journal of Computer Networks, Infrastructure Management and Security (IJCoNIMS); the journal is published twice a year. In addition to the research-based proceedings and journals, the Research group also publishes a magazine containing interesting and contemporary articles and stories; the magazine is published quarterly.

Uwadia, Onuwa Charles is a Professor of Computer Science at the Department of Computer Sciences, University of Lagos. His areas of specialization are Software Engineering, Computer Architecture, Communications and Networking Systems. He holds a BSc (Computer Science), University of Ibadan, 1979; an MSc (Computer Science), University of Lagos, 1983; PhD (Computer Science), University of Lagos, 1990. He has served the University in various capacities including Acting Head of department 1996 – 1998; Acting Director Computer Centre 2003 – 2005; Director, Centre for Information Technology and Systems 2005 – 2013; Head of department 2013 -2016. He has over 100 academic publications in reputable local and international media. He is a member of ACM, IEEE, and a Fellow of the Nigeria Computer Society. He has served the IT community in Nigeria in various capacities – President, Nigeria Computer Society 2007 – 2011; President/Chairman-in-Council, Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria June 2017 – June 2021. He is the Chair, Eko-Konnect Research and Education Initiative. He is the Chairman of Computer Networks, Infrastructure Management and Security (CoNIMS) research group.

Dr. Oladeji, Florence Alaba, Nee Farewo, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science. She is a scholar of First Class honour in Computer Science and Economics from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. This erudite lecturer is a member of Computer Professional Registration Council of Nigeria as well as member of Nigeria Computer Society. She bagged her Master degree with distinction from same Obafemi Awolowo University in 1999 and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD.) from University of Lagos in 2010.

She joined the University of Lagos in 1999. Her career in academic which started with graduate assistantship to the present position has accumulated to production and mentoring of many graduates at Bachelor of Science, Masters and doctoral students. She has served in various capacities from SIWES coordinator, examination officer, head of department, postgraduate coordinator to the position of Acting Director, Centre for Information Technology and Systems in the University.

She has contributed to the world of academic through her research publications which centered on computer network congestion management, information security, artificial systems and health data mining. She teaches computer networks, operating system operations research, computer performance evaluation and data science. She also served the University as a member, auditorium management committee, Faculty accreditation Committee, member Faculty curriculum committee, CPN accreditation and NiWIIT 2020 election committee.

Nureni Ayofe AZEEZ obtained his B.Tech.  (Hons.)  from  the  Federal  University  of  Technology,  Akure,  Nigeria  in  2005,  MSc  from  the  University of  Ibadan,  Oyo  State,  Nigeria  in  2008,  and  Ph.D.  from  University  of  the Western  Cape,  South  Africa  in  2013,  all  in  Computer  Science.  His  areas of  research  include  Security  &  Privacy,  Access  Control,  Trust Management,,  Physical & Cybersecurity, E-Health  and  ICT4D.  He is a recipient of The Young Scientist Award at the 22nd International CODATA Conference that was held in Cape Town, South Africa in October 2010. He is currently  Senior  Lecturer  in  the  Department  of  Computer  Sciences,  University  of Lagos, Nigeria.

Dr. Adewole Usman RUFAI, FNCS is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer Sciences, University of Lagos, Nigeria.  His tertiary education includes the following; Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics obtained from the University of Ilorin, PGD, M.Sc., Ph.D. (Computer Science), and MBA (Finance) all from the University of Lagos. His areas of research include Software Engineering, Cognitive Computing, and Cyber Security. He won the United Nations University’s Fellowship as a Visiting Scholar, Department of Computer Sciences, Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana, U.S.A. in the Fall of 2007. He was also a Visiting Scientist to Laboratorie Lorraine de Recherche en Informatique et ses Application (LORIA), Universite de Lorraine, Vandoeuvre-les-Nancy, France (2012-2013). He is a Fellow of the Nigeria Computer Society, a Certified Information Technology Practitioner, and a Member of the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria.

Dr. Emmanuel Okewu

As an ICT practitioner and research scientist, my research interests include Software Engineering, Cybersecurity, Bioinformatics and Optimization. My qualifications and institutions attended are: B.Sc. (Computer Science) from University of Benin, Benin City; M.Sc. (Computer Science) from Covenant University, Ota; PhD (Software Engineering) from University of Alcala, Spain; and MBA from Federal University of Technology, Akure. Past and present positions of responsibilities held include: Programmer, University of Jos (2001 – 2007); Business Development Manager, Neptune (Nig.) Ltd, 2008 -2010; Deputy Director, University of Lagos (2012 – to date). Some of my ICT project management engagements are Project Manager, Nigerian Army Turnkey Project (2008 – 2010), and Project Manager,           e-Administration Project, University of Lagos, 2012 – 2016. My current research and publication efforts are in the areas of Cybersecurity and BioinformaticsD

Koleoso is a Computer Science specialist with focus on Digital Forensics. She has her undergraduate degree in Computer Science from University of Lagos in 2003; Masters in 2009 in Information Security and Computer Forensics from University of East London, UK and a Ph.D. in view from the University of Lagos. She has acquired knowledge over the years with education, government, social care and industry experiences, conducted research in digital forensics, mentored 10 students and achieved membership in professional and academic groups with 5 publications

Abass Rasheed is currently an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Computer Sciences, University of Lagos. He joined the department after graduating with a Distinction during his Master’s programme. In 2020, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) awarded him a scholarship to support the pursuit of his doctoral degree in any Nigerian institution after he emerged as the best candidate from the South West geopolitical zone of Nigeria. His research interest focuses mainly on using Artificial Intelligence as an applicable tool for providing solutions to various societal challenges in sectors such as education, health, agriculture, security etc. He is a young and bright mind who aspires to get to the peak of his academic career.
